Ok, so the first thing you need to know about Geekfest, is that it is AWESOME. In fact, the sheer level of awesome is amazing.
This was my and Mr. Moo's first Geekfest and we loved it. We arrived around 10 on the Saturday and as soon as we walked in, just felt immersed in the fun.
There were a wonderful variety of stalls, with lots of shady spots to hide from the heat. We walked, and looked and ran into friends and just generally felt very at home. The cos play was super cool, as was watching robot wars. So, without further ado, here is my list of things we thought about Geekfest 2016:
1. Traffic sucked a little, but parking was plentiful.
It took us about 25 mins to edge slowly towards the parking area. In fairness this wasn't the worst event traffic I have sat in and the view was lovely. We were impressed with the security though, once we got to the parking area, who were very efficient. They could maybe think about a second entrance for cars.
2. Layout of stalls
Geekfest was laid out on a field. It was spacious and had the stalls easily accessible. What wasn't cool was the lack of stall numbering. We looked. Other people looked....we found none. My suggestion in that each stand should have a number on it that one can see where you are.
What was nice was how wide the middle lines were, so you had lots of room to roam without feeling crushed.
3. What was there
One of the worries we had, was that the show wouldn't have stuff we were interested in. BOY WERE WE WRONG. Geekfest almost has something for everyone. It was actually so much fun to go and look at almost EVERY stall to see what they had. There also weren't 20 stalls all selling one type of thing like you get at some shows.
From Robot wars to dog jackets to Helicopter rides to vodka slushies....there was really something to set any geeks heart a flutter. There was stuff for big and little kids, Moms and Dads....just something for everyone.
4. Public involvement.
It was seriously cool to see all the people that went ALL out to get dressed up and be a part of the festival. There are so many shows where people have a "meh" attitude. It was fantastic to go to one finally where people were involved. It really helped make the day
We were only at Geekfest on the Saturday, but from the sound of it, both were fantastic. We loved it and will definitely be back next year.
