Greetings all

I am not a Banter….let me put that out there right here. I do not Bant or follow Banting. However, I do follow a low Carb lifestyle (cause there are just somethings that are just not good for you) and try to also follow a low sugar lifestyle….try, don’t always succeed, but try lol!

A few weeks ago, at Good Food and Wine, I met a wonderful woman by the name of Heather Hayden. This dynamo is a contagious force of health, and after a grand chat, she invited me to step into the Revolution… dun dun duuuun

The Revolution Food Fair is something I had heard about…but its full of those weird foods and *whisper* Banters…….I mean, while I can do with more healthy options, just how much cauliflower pizza can one eat.

But, being the adventurous Blogging sort, and Heather seeming so normal, on Sunday 31 May I went off with Mr. Moo in tow, to the Earth Fair Market premises (You know, the Wed&Sat one) in Tokai.

OH MY WORD, what an experience!
Heather started things off with breakfast from Alison's Kitchen   . Bacon, sausage, eggs, crème fraiche, and their special, super awesome bread. Delicious. Mr. Moo got coffee for us from Pronto, which was strong and creamy. I cannot tell you how good that breakfast was though.

The bacon was crispy, the sausage juicy and the eggs perfectly creamy. It was topped off with baby spinach and cherry tomatoes.

R50 and you get a really good portion. The really nice part was that Banting or not, this was a seriously quality breakfast.

Mr. Moo actually went and got his own plate after tasting mine!

After a hearty breakfast, we started round the market, to meet a few of the Traders. Some I knew already, and some were new to me.

Oryx Desert Salt. A non iodized salt from the Kalahari, with some interesting flavors such as a smoked salt, as well as plain salt.

The  there was the lady with the sausage...oooh the sausage. Besides all the rest, she had the most amazing Smoked Ostrich with orange juice and coriander....you have NO idea how good this was.

I was treated to yummy blueberry cake with coconut flour from "Sweet like Candi". It was lovey to run into owner, Leaine Brebner, who I met years back at a random bloggers meet. She has done really well for herself and puts out some seriously good quality products. She uses coconut flour among others and is proudly dairy free, banting, low carb, gluten free etc. A whole package for allergy free eating.

Also at the fair was Coconut Connection, with their range of Coconut sugar, oil, etc

Another fantastic baked goods trader, is "Cravings Bakery". The brownies were sublime. I was lucky enough to not only get to try some of the products at the fair, but got to try some at home later. They have a very realistic tasting sugar and carb free chocolate brownie, that I wouldn't have known was so healthy if I wasn't told. This is a massive selling point. At home we tried the focaccia and the 2 desserts....well, you lucky there are pictures as we wolfed them down. Considering this was the next day, everything was still soft and tasty.

Allison's Kitchen (the people that did the amazing brekkie!) do a whooole, lot of other yummy stuff. I got treated to a taste of the chicken soup with a bite, that was sublime. Then there were various bread options to try and the most amazing muffins.

What is particually important is that bread tho. It is completely Banting friendly and really, really delicious. Alison is also working on a few other ideas, so keep watching her Facebook page.

There were a few Traders who's products I loved so much that they provided me with samples to try at home, that I am doing a separate blog on them.

Coco Zone is an exciting coconut water that I, who does NOT like coconut water, really liked. They provided me with a sample which I am keen to try in a few ways. This will also be talked about in a follow up blog

The Braai Revolution.  This a shop in Lakeside supplies some of the best quality butchery products that I have ever used. They are a regular feature at the Revolution Food Fair and you would do well to grab meat while you can at the market, as it sells out fast.

#Selfie do some really clever products, ranging from bread flour, to meal supplements and salad dressing. I've been trying their supplement shake and it is really tasty.
One of my very, very favorite product lines, is a range called "Skinny Pasta" At around R30 a pack its not the cheapest but it really is worth buying. When I fist saw this product I was on day 2 of GF&WS 2015 and had yet to buy something. I had cash in hand and had taken it to the show to find that 1 thing that impressed me enough to spend that cash. I was so happy to see them at the Revolution Food Fair again, and was even happier to receive some of the product to take home and try (I'm really looking forward to telling you all about it.
Made out of a special noodle, this brand is among other things: sugar free, gluten free, fat free, salt free etc etc. 1 packet easily serves 2 after being mixed into a dish. The closes thing I can think that reminds me of it, is glass noodles. BUT, this comes in all sorts of shapes like lasagne sheets, Fettuccine etc.

I will be blogging about this, but do yourself a favor. Get a pack at the next market and tell me what you thought via my FB page...and you may get a mention in my next blog.

Kingdom Macadamia Oil is one of those products that just add that something special. I loved the taste and the promise that it's smoking temp is higher than olive oil is def true. It is well worth a try.

Teapigs.....gosh...I will be giving you a full run down on this wonderful product in a later blog, but let me tell you NOW, that if you are a tea drinker, you MUST get down to the market and go buy a few flavors. They are just pure quality and very, very well priced.

The Red Basket Company is one of those product suppliers that you need to have on speed dial.
They have the most amazing range of flours, and sweetener products that can assist you in producing totally sugar and carb free cakes, breads etc. The best part is that they are super well priced. With an average premix costing around R30.  I first met them at Good Food and Wine show, and have got a few products at home to test for myself. My friend Kyla bought the chocolate cake mix, and still is raving about the product quality.

A few other notable mentions (pictures are Against the grain, owned by an old school friend of mine, Taryne. She does the most scrumptious pizza bases...that are Banting and are not cauliflower. Her hot foods were even better than how amazing her pastries looked...and they looked GOOD!

The bar at the market has wonderful wines and beers and is the perfect spot to wet your whistle. I had a great glass of bubbly that went down a treat.

The Banting box had marshmallows...that had no sugar...and tasted JUST like real marshmallows. They also had fantastic preserves and a host of other nice stuff.

There is biltong and burgers, preserves and pastries, and all sorts of interesting other things to eat and try.

If there is one thing that I can say about the Revolution Food Fair, is that it is NOT just for people that are Banting. If you are looking to go to a market where you can buy great food, at the same prices as normal markets ..or slightly higher.... and enjoy amazing tasting food that is healthy for you....then this is the place to go.

The market isn't full of weird foodies wearing weird clothes with open toes or anything. Its efficient and has snapscan and if full of wonderful, friendly people.

Do yourself a favour, go through this Sunday, grab breakfast, go buy some stuff...and decide for yourself. But you wont be sorry you did :)

See you soon
Moo x
