Every now and then in a Bloggers world, a show comes along that is beyond a pleasure to write about and in fact, doesn’t need a long winded write up. Priscilla Queen of the Desert is just that show and easily summed up in one word... MAGNIFICENT!
From colourful costumes, perfect notes and a completely flawless performance, this show sets the bar for an international show. Sparkles, sequins, glitter and glam, there was not a single part of the show that let it down. Brilliant and spot on from the first note to the last, Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a not to be missed experience. From the suspended Divas, opening the show with "Its raining men"until the very last note of the evening, this show will hold you enthralled with wide eyed wonder and take you on the most fabulous journey.
You cannot help but root for Tick (played by the astoundingly talented Daniel Buys who is no stranger to the Teatro stage) and his journey, feel heart sore and moved by the message on the bus, and laugh along with Felicia's sharp jokes. The choreography is flawless and each song presented with epic precision that leaves you breathless. The adventures on the bus are held together by the 3rd in the group, the role of Bernadette played by the brilliant David Dennis. The journey of these 3 queens is supported by a spectacular cast of singers and dancers who sparkle and glitter and twirl their way around the stage with stunning ability.
As we walked out afterwards I commented that I felt like I had just been to see the most magnificent show made for adults only with a quality and substance that I had never come across before, such was the huge smile on my face. Outside of the usual brilliance created on stage by Hazel and Tony Feldman, what adds to making this show as enjoyable as it is, is the audience participation in dressing up. Feather boa’s, dresses, frocks and eyeshadow as far as one could see, added to the theatrics and brought the theatrics into the seats.
Honestly, I could go on for hours about it, but would rather say go and see it for yourself. If you only make one show this year, make it Priscilla Queen of the desert. You will NOT be sorry you did. We LOVED every glittery moment of it, and I will eat my hat if you don't too!
