Subliminal, mind blowing, awe inspiring, heart stopping ..... just some of the words that can be used to describe the phenomenal performance of Cirque Eloize iD.
If there was ever a circus that you would want to run away with, this is the one!
At 8pm last night, with bums in seats, The Teatro at Montecasino fell silent, and that would be the last time in the 2 hour show that you would be able to hear a pin drop. From the moment the performers of Cirque Eloize iD took the stage, the audience was a sea of clapping, cheering and gasps.
With a high-energy blend of circus arts and urban dance, this production takes you on a crazy journey of music, dance, performance and sheer delight. With Acrobats, aerialists, a trial biker, hip hop and break dancing, the evening flies by with the interval arriving at astonishing speed.
I have to admit, there were a few times that I had to cover my eyes.....and then peek through my fingers in disbelief of what the performers were able to do, because it was just too amazing. This show needs seeing to be believed and no description will do real justice to the out of this world performance that these talented young people put on. With almost a West side story meets TRON, this is a show that will appeal to young, old, male and female and I can recommend it as complete value for money and the best 2 hours you will spend in a very long time.
If you haven’t yet gotten tickets to go, DO NOT DELAY!! Tickets are available at Computicket, I CANNOT recommend this show enough.
Cirque Eloize iD is on at Montecasino until 24 December and will BLOW. YOUR. MIND!!

I can honestly sum this show with one word, Magnificent!
Last night I was lucky enough to get passes to The Celtic Woman Destiny Tour SA opening night at the Teatro at Montecasino, and even luckier to be seated dead middle only 9 rows from the from the front.
The evening opened with a performance by the Mzanzi Youth Choir. These young men and woman would be worth seeing as a standalone performance, anytime. With renditions of popular songs such as “My African Dream” and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” as well as a spectacular original song, “Say Africa” that brought a lump to many throats in the audience. Do yourself a favor and if you EVER get the opportunity to see them, do not miss it.
Celtic Woman then took the stage and proceeded to execute a flawless performance. With songs like “O Danny Boy”, “When you go”, “Ride on” and "Siuil a Run", to name only 4 of list of songs featured in the, over an hour long, concert. With some of the most angelic voices I have ever heard, they held the audience completely spellbound. Complete with bagpipes, traditional spoons, and amazing backing musicians, this is a show that is worth every cent spent to go and see.
There are still 2 shows, one for tonight at Montecasino and one for tomorrow at Carnival City. Book quickly at Big Concerts while you still possibly can get tickets. DO NOT miss out on this truly spectacular performance.
NOTE: Media passes were supplied with thanks from the Publicity Workshop
In mid July, Mr. Moo and I were lucky enough to get treated to a night away at Sun Square, Montecasino by charming GM, Kaliq Essop. This was a great opportunity to look at what the hotel and casino could offer for a quick night holiday within the city.
Montecasino is easy to access, close to commercial hubs and is pretty much a max of 35 mins from most of Gauteng. The room was spotless, with a queen size bed (with LOTS of super plump pillows....a must for me), a great view and a big shower. The room also came with aircon, DSTV, desk, safe, hangers and goodies to make tea or coffee. As a 3 star hotel, it met every basic need and was beautifully turned out and very comfortable. Service from every, single staff member was efficient and incredibly friendly and they made us feel like a million bucks.
At a room cost of around R1500 for a room for 2 people per night, it is actually very reasonable, especially with an all you can eat buffet breakfast at the stunning Aarya Restaurant, included for both people.
It was wonderful to be able to go for dinner at a great restaurant in the casino, go for a stroll, enjoy a bottle of wine....and then take a leisurely walk back to our hotel, stopping for a scoop of ice cream on the way. No rush, no hurry, no worry about drinking and driving, and perfectly safe at all times.
About that breakfast at Aarya... you need to go just to experience that breakfast!!!! Now I need to make a special note here. Go hungry. Aarya is a fantastic place to have dinner with well priced EXCELLENT food that you just want to eat till you burst...but the breakfast spread they put on for the hotel guests is something that took my breath away.
Fresh, bright, delicious, with everything executed by the nicest, friendliest staff that I have ever met at 7am on a Sunday morning! The photos I took, while really lovely, don’t even do the food freshness and quality any justice.
We loved staying at the Tsogo Sun Square Hotel. From the doorman to the lady that came to assist with the air-conditioning unit during the evening, we were treated with the utmost care and respect. Yes, R1500 is something most of us can’t do EVERY month, but for a quick urban retreat that you don’t need to drive hours to and where your car is safe and you have some amazing restaurants on your doorstep, just to get away with your significant other now and then....it is definitely the way to go every now and then to take a break or 3 during your year.
If you keep an eye on the Montecasino site, time your visit for when an event is happening (we went to watch the Bulls game in the outdoor arena on Saturday and to the Chocolate and Wine festival on the Sunday).
But the very best thing about the hotel and staff is that while it may be a 3 star hotel, the service to customers is 100%, 5 star!
The night at Sun Square was sponsored by the hotel. Staff of the hotel and restaurant were not aware of this, and all experiences were what a normal guest would have. Thank you to GM, Kaliq Essop.
"SNOWSHOW is a universal and timeless theatrical poetic spectacle which has unanimously enchanted and empowered the imagination of audiences and critics since 1993 in dozens of countries, hundreds of cities with multiple thousand performances resulting in millions of ecstatic spectators from all nationalities, genders, beliefs, types and ages, probably like no other show. It is a genre of it’s own and remains as spontaneous and magical as on the first day it was performed, systematically catapulting adults back in childhood."

Slava's Snow Show opened this week, at Teatro at Montecasino amid a flurry of snow and glitter. This was my first time at Teatro, so off I went with my good friend Linda, to go and enjoy a night out. And oh my goodness, did we have a good time!
Celebrities and public alike, gathered to see the long awaited international show. Slava's Snow Show is a stage spectacle created and staged by Russian performance artist Slava Polunin. A somewhat amusing, sometimes dark but definitely (if you near the front you in for a particularly interesting night lol!) interactive show, it has won the Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience was also nominated for the Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event.
With a unique style that gathers the audience into the show, it was pure magic to be a part of. With equal parts joy and sadness, the show weaves a spell around the audience, transporting them to another world filled with whimsy and is, at times, surreal to watch. Clowns and more clowns, this show not suggested for under 8's, for good reason. There are times in the fantasy that it grows darker and more introspective which may frighten smaller children. While this show may not appeal to everyone (if you like dialogue then this is not the show to see lol) it is a show that will have a part that appeals to everyone. Like a dream you flit along the story line, with wide eyed wonder at the magic that is created by the clowns.
While some parts were a bit sadder, we laughed and laughed and clapped our hands in delight, over and over during the show, and if you want to know if I would recommend you see it...YES, It was a really wonderful experience.
Book to see the show in South Africa HERE at Teatro at Montecasino NOW, or later this year at Artscape
Last night saw Aarya Restaurant at Montecasino’s Tsogo Sun, launch their new menu at an exclusive media event where guests were well and truly spoiled.
Bloggers, PR people and a sprinkling of celebs gave the evening a pleasant mix of people... but honestly, we could have all been there in black bags with nothing more than a plastic fork, and it would have still turned into a spectacular night as soon as we took our first bite of food!
I can go into the wonderful ambiance of the venue, the well thought out layout, and the presentation of the food which makes you salivate on sight, but that isn’t where you begin with when speaking about Aarya. Where you begin is with Deena Naidoo, the very special man behind the restaurant.
We were lucky to sample only small portions of each of the new menu items, because Aarya does not skimp on portion size lol. When you visit, you need to come hungry as, even more than the generous portions, you will be incredibly spoiled for choice. From the curry (a trio of mouth watering curries) to the ’falling off the bone’ lamb shank, the prawns with their spicy dip, the pizza, and the decadent desserts, it may sound biased but I have to give 10/10 for everything we tasted. There was nothing that wasn’t fantastic. I was blown away by the depth of flavors and how well thought out each dish is. Everything is fresh and aimed at the customer.
Honestly, I could write another 1000 words on the food alone (never mind the wonderful wine pairings), but you know what I always say.... GO TRY IT YOURSELF! Nothing I say can really do justice to the food. Everything is cooked with love and the wonderful passion each person at Aarya has, translates to each plate.
On a personal note, I got to meet some great new people last night. Moving up from the Cape, I wasn’t sure how I would fare with Gauteng, but I have been so surprised by how welcoming people are.Fellow bloggers @laurasWorldza and @JoziStyle (GO, go NOW and find them on Twitter and instagram, and follow them!) Theodore Jantjies (Zander on 7de Laan) who is just the most real guy you can ever meet and his lovely girlfriend. We met the very charming GM of SunSquare, Kaliq Essop and Masterchef judge, Benny Masekwameng with his never fading smile.
Aarya Restuarants new menu is a thing to taste and I can only recommend that you go and try it for yourself. Take a friend or three; order a few items to eat and a bottle or two of wine off their exceptional wine list. And who knows, if you lucky you may even get to meet Deena himself.
